Vanda pumila is a charming botanical orchid species native to Southeast Asia, particularly appreciated for its compact growth habit and delicate, fragrant flowers. Unlike many larger Vanda species, this orchid remains relatively small, making it especially attractive to collectors of miniature and compact vandaceous orchids. The blooms typically display soft creamy-white to pale yellow tones, often complemented by subtle contrasting markings and a beautifully shaped lip.
This plant is cultivated bare-root on a support, without any growing substrate. This cultivation method provides excellent aeration around the roots and closely replicates its natural epiphytic growing conditions.
Vanda pumila thrives in intermediate to warm temperatures with bright, filtered light, moderate to high humidity, and excellent air circulation. The exposed roots should be watered thoroughly and regularly, especially during warmer periods, allowing them to dry between waterings while avoiding prolonged dehydration.
With its compact dimensions, delicate fragrance, and elegant flowers, Vanda pumila is a beautiful and rewarding addition to any collection of botanical Vanda orchids.
