Sophronitis brevipedunculata

Sophronitis brevipedunculata is a fascinating miniature botanical orchid species native to Brazil, particularly appreciated for its compact growth habit and brilliantly coloured flowers. Despite its small size, this species produces striking blooms in vivid shades of scarlet-red to orange-red, creating a spectacular contrast with its miniature foliage. It thrives in intermediate to cool temperatures with bright, filtered light, moderate to high humidity, and excellent air circulation. This species is particularly well suited to cultivation mounted on a wooden slab, which provides excellent aeration around the roots and closely replicates its natural epiphytic growing conditions. Mounted plants require frequent watering, especially during warm periods, allowing the roots to dry slightly between waterings without prolonged dehydration. With its miniature dimensions, intense flower colouring, and distinctive botanical character, Sophronitis brevipedunculata is an exceptional addition to any collection of miniature Brazilian orchids.
