Cattleya maxima coerulea ‘Hector’ × self is a beautiful seed-grown selection of the coerulea form of this spectacular botanical orchid species native to Ecuador and Peru. This particular cross is obtained through self-pollination of the selected ‘Hector’ parent, known for its attractive coerulea characteristics. The elegant, fragrant flowers can display delicate shades of pale lavender to bluish-violet, complemented by a more intensely coloured lip with distinctive veining. As a self-cross, some natural variation in flower colour, shape, and markings can occur between individual plants, making each specimen unique.
It thrives in intermediate to warm temperatures with bright light, moderate humidity, and excellent air circulation. This plant is cultivated in a pot using a coarse, highly draining orchid substrate that provides excellent aeration around the roots. Water regularly during active growth, allowing the substrate to dry well between waterings and avoiding prolonged water stagnation.
With its refined coerulea colouring, graceful flowers, and desirable selected parentage, Cattleya maxima coerulea ‘Hector’ × self is an exceptional addition to any botanical Cattleya collection.
