This species is well known for its distinctive and unusual flowers, often called “octopus orchids”, with narrow twisted petals and a prominent, shell-shaped lip. The flowers are typically greenish to yellow with a dark purple lip and are produced successively over a long period.

It is cultivated in a pot using a well-draining substrate such as medium bark, ensuring excellent aeration of the roots.
