Dracula chimaera is a spectacular botanical orchid native to the humid cloud forests of Colombia and Ecuador. It is particularly admired for its extraordinary triangular flowers, characterised by elongated sepal tails and intricate patterns in shades of cream, yellow, reddish-brown, and burgundy.
The plants are cultivated in small pots with sphagnum moss, which helps maintain the constant moisture required by this species.
Dracula chimaera prefers cool to intermediate temperatures, shaded conditions, high humidity, and excellent air circulation. The sphagnum moss should remain consistently moist without becoming waterlogged. Its flower spikes maydevelop downwards, so a suitable container can be beneficial during flowering.
With its unusual flowers and fascinating botanical characteristics, Dracula chimaera is a remarkable addition to any collection of rare and unusual orchids.
