Cattleya aurantiaca is a beautiful botanical orchid species native to Mexico and Central America, particularly appreciated for its vibrant colouring, compact growth habit, and abundant flowering. The blooms display brilliant shades of orange to orange-red and are typically produced in clusters of numerous relatively small flowers, creating an impressive and colourful floral display. Unlike many large-flowered Cattleya species, Cattleya aurantiaca is especially valued for its floriferous nature and distinctive, waxy flowers.
It thrives in intermediate to warm temperatures with bright light, moderate humidity, and excellent air circulation. This plant is cultivated in a pot using a coarse, highly draining orchid substrate that provides excellent aeration around the roots. Water regularly during active growth, allowing the substrate to dry well between waterings and reducing watering slightly when growth slows.
With its vivid orange colouring, abundant flowering, and elegant botanical character, Cattleya aurantiaca is a charming and rewarding addition to any collection of botanical orchids.
